The MAVEN Project is very excited to announce our upcoming Educational Sessions! As always, these sessions are presented via Zoom videoconferencing, and consist of 20-30 minutes of a presentation and 15 – 20 minutes of Q&A. Our volunteers are eager to discuss your patients, so please don’t hesitate to come with questions or cases you’d like to discuss.

Presentation Title: Type II Diabetes: The When and the How of Insulin Therapy
Bio: After completing her training, Dr. Maria F. Couto was faculty at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics during which time she was also a recipient of NIH-funded T32 Post-Doctoral Training Fellowship in Women’s Health and Endocrinology. Later she joined the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, where she served as Chief of Endocrinology at Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital and Attending at Memorial Hermann Hospital. During this time, she worked closely with endocrine fellows, internal medicine residents and medical students and was one of the recipients of the Dean’s Teaching Excellence Award. Dr. Couto then worked in private practice in Mobile, AL where she continued to practice inpatient and outpatient endocrinology, served as team member of the Providence Hospital Glycemic Control Improvement Process and Co-Director of the Diabetes Center. Most recently, she serves as Physician Reviewer for Medical Review Institute of America a company based out of Salt Lake City, UT. Dr. Couto’s clinical interest include general endocrinology, thyroid dysfunction, thyroid nodules, and management of type 1 diabetes. She is married and the mother of triplets.
